Bishop Laney (named after Ely's Bishop who lived from 1590-1674), formerly Ely College Sixth Form, is a Sixth Form in Ely, sharing some of the property with Ely College. Also one of the CMAT schools as well as part of the Staploe Education Trust, it is an ongoing partnership between Ely College and Soham Village College.
It was the first college to be chartered by the Missouri state legislature, and the second educational institution in Missouri to be granted the right to confer college and university degrees. [1] [2] Founded in 1831, Marion College was originally planned as a manual labor college focusing primarily on agriculture, while also teaching classics.
The Isle College, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, opened in 1956 as the Isle of Ely Further Education College and Horticultural Institute. In 1983, it became a tertiary education college. [ 1 ] In 1987, its horticultural institute separated to become part of the Cambridgeshire College of Agriculture and Horticulture. [ 2 ]

Woodford also established Ely Theological College, where twelve students were housed and trained for parochial work, Woodford died, unmarried, at Ely on 21 October 1885. He was buried on the south side of the cathedral choir on the 30th. His name lives on in the Diocese of Ely's Bishop Woodford House Retreat and Conference Centre. [2]

Ely was declared to be a local board district on 15 July 1850, covering the two parishes of Ely Holy Trinty and Ely St Mary, plus the unparished area known as Ely College which surrounded the cathedral. The order creating the local board described the district as the "city of Ely", and the new body called itself the "City of Ely Local Board".
