The Mono Hot Springs post office was established in 1945. [2] A general store and stone cabins are located at the rustic Mono Hot Springs Resort. [4] The resort was built in 1935, a few years after Southern California Edison completed this section of the Kaiser Pass Road for the Big Creek Hydroelectric Project.
The springs near Hot Creek host one of the two known Tui chub populations of the endangered Owens tui chub species. In 2008, after a jury trial, the Mono County Superior Court entered a $43 million judgment against the Town of Mammoth Lakes for breach of a development agreement. The California Court of Appeal, Third District, affirmed the judgment in December 2010, [12] and the California Supreme Court declined to hear the appeal on March 23, 2011. [13]

Benton (formerly Benton Station) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Mono County, California, United States. [2] It includes the unincorporated communities of Benton and Benton Hot Springs and is 32 miles (51 km) north of the community of Bishop. The population of the CDP was 279 at the 2020 census. [3]
