The county seat is Covington. [1] As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,223. [2] The county was created in 1822 from parts of Bath County, Botetourt County, and Monroe County (now in West Virginia) with additional portions of Bath County and Monroe County added in 1823 and 1844, respectively. [3]
Covington Red Sox (Appy League) (1966) Casey Field & Boodie Albert Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in Covington, Virginia . Games were first played there in 1962 and it is primarily the home of the Covington Lumberjacks of the Valley Baseball League . [ 1 ]
In 1861, Virginia seceded from the Union. No battles were fought in Rappahannock County during the Civil War although there were skirmishes, encampments, and significant troop movements through the county. Men from the county served in the 6th & 12th Regiment Virginia Cavalry and the 1st, 7th, and 49th Regiment Virginia Infantry. [7]
