Paynes Creek Historic State Park is a Florida State Park located on Lake Branch Road one-half mile southeast of Bowling Green, Florida.On November 21, 1978, it was added to the United States National Register of Historic Places, under the title of Payne's Creek Massacre-Fort Chokonikla Site (also known as "site of Chokonikla blockhouse and bridge" or "Military cemetery").
On 19 August 2024 the Florida Department of Environmental Protection announced plans [21] to build golf courses and 350-room lodges on state park lands. [22]In statements to the Tampa Bay Times and in posts to social media, the agency claimed that the construction of a golf course on vulnerable scrub habitat will be done in a way to "minimize habitat impacts".
The Florida Cracker Trail today includes parts of State Road 64 and State Road 66 through Zolfo Springs. [1] [8] In 1886, transportation improved through Zolfo when the Florida Southern Railway (later the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad) was built through the town on its way from Bartow to Punta Gorda. [9]

Pioneer Park is located in Zolfo Springs, Florida. This park, owned and operated by Hardee County, Florida, is at the northwest corner of US 17 and Florida Highway 64. It is bounded by those two highways and on the north and west by Peace River. Roughly the northern half of the park is wooded.
[21] 27/98 is the main highway through the city, leading north 23 miles (37 km) to Lake Wales and south 10 miles (16 km) to Sebring. Florida State Road 17 (Main Street) leads east through the center of Avon Park, then south 10 miles to the center of Sebring. Florida State Road 64 leads west from Avon Park 19 miles (31 km) to Zolfo Springs.
