The Brasstown Wilderness was designated in 1986 and currently consists of 12,896 acres (52.19 km 2). The Wilderness is located within the borders of the Chattahoochee National Forest in Union County and Towns County, Georgia. The Wilderness is managed by the United States Forest Service and is part of the National Wilderness Preservation System.
The trail is managed by the U.S. Forest Service. The trail starts at Brasstown Bald and heads in a southernly direction along the boundary between Union and Towns counties. After 2.2 miles (3.5 km) and a descent of nearly 1,500 feet (460 m), it reaches Jacks Gap and crosses Georgia State Route 180 .

The Colorado State Forest Service (CSFS) is the forest service agency for the U.S. state of Colorado. It is modeled after the United States Forest Service. Their goal is "providing timely, relevant forestry information and education to Colorado citizens." [1] The Colorado General Assembly established the CSFS in 1955.
The U.S. State of Colorado has only one state forest, the Colorado State Forest in Jackson County. The Colorado State Forest is managed by the Colorado State Forest Service and is coextensive with the State Forest State Park which is managed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
The western forest contains Johns Mountain, Little Sand Mountain, and Taylor Ridge (Georgia). The combined total area of the Chattahoochee–Oconee National Forest is 867,265 acres (3,510 km 2), of which the Chattahoochee National Forest comprises 751,069 acres (3,039 km 2) and the Oconee National Forest comprises 116,196 acres (470 km 2).
