Matthew Kiichi Heafy (/ ˈ h eɪ f i / HAY-fee; born January 26, 1986) [1] is a Japanese-American musician, best known as the guitarist and lead vocalist for heavy metal band Trivium. [2] He was also the lead vocalist for the band Capharnaum , along with Trivium's former producer Jason Suecof .

Trivium was formed in 1999 by Brad Lewter, Jarred Bonaparte and Travis Smith, all of whom were students at Lake Brantley High School. [1] Shortly after the band's formation, 13-year-old Matt Heafy was enlisted as a second guitarist by Lewter, after he saw him perform at a school talent show. [2]
Trivium frontman Matt Heafy typically leads the band's songwriting process, including writing most of the lyrics. Drummer Travis Smith contributed to the band's first four albums, from 2003's Ember to Inferno to 2008's Shogun.
This marks the first Trivium album to feature guitarist Corey Beaulieu and bassist Paolo Gregoletto. The album was produced by Jason Suecof and frontman Matt Heafy.The album spawned four singles: "Like Light to the Flies", "Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr", "A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation" and "Dying in Your Arms".
On December 2, 2014, it was announced by Matt Heafy on Twitter that Ember to Inferno would be re-released again with new artwork along with the band's early demo EPs. [4] The re-release was officially revealed on October 14, 2016, via Trivium's Facebook page. It was released on December 2, 2016, two years after the initial announcement by Heafy.
