Mahidol University is an autonomous public research university in Thailand. The university was founded as part of Siriraj Hospital in 1888. It was first called the University of Medical Science in 1943, and has been recognized as Thailand's fourth public university.
Mahidol University, as a whole, has been ranked the best university in Thailand in various ranking methodologies. Although the international college is an autonomous element of the institution, it does not have its own academic ranking.
It was established in 1994 by Mahidol University under the leadership of Sugree Charoensook , the first music school in Thailand. Today, there are more than 1,300 students enrolled in the precollege, undergraduate, and graduate levels of the College of Music (approximately 300 precollege, 750 undergraduates and 250 graduate students).
In 1958, the Medical Science Preparatory School (now Faculty of Science, Mahidol University) was established and the first-year students had then received preliminary education from that Preparatory School at Phaya Thai. The Siriraj Faculty became one of the several medical schools within the University of Medical Sciences.
The Faculty of Tropical Medicine was first proposed by Prof. Chamlong Harinasuta, M.D. and Prof. Khunying Tranakchit Harinasuta, M.D. as there as no school in Thailand that taught tropical medicine specifically and students wishing to study in the field had to go to foreign institutions in the United Kingdom.
College of Management, Mahidol University, also known as CMMU, is the business school of Mahidol University, located in Bangkok, Thailand. Established in 1997, CMMU offers master's and Ph.D. degree programmes in management studies. CMMU is a member of AACSB and PRME.
In 2008, Mahidol University conducted a study to determine the possibility of creating an international demonstration school as a feeder school for the university. In 2010, the university assembled a board of directors who lead the creation of MUIDS.
