Muriel's Wedding is a 1994 Australian comedy-drama film written and directed by P. J. Hogan.The film, which stars Toni Collette, Rachel Griffiths, Jeanie Drynan, Sophie Lee, and Bill Hunter, focuses on the socially awkward Muriel whose ambition is to have a glamorous wedding and improve her personal life by moving from her dead-end hometown, the fictional Porpoise Spit, to Sydney.
Rachel Anne Griffiths AM (born in 1968) [b] is an Australian actress. Raised primarily in Melbourne, she began her acting career appearing on the Australian series Secrets before being cast in a supporting role in the comedy Muriel's Wedding (1994), which earned her an AACTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
The 1990s saw the release of the successful Muriel's Wedding and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert in 1994 and The Castle in 1997.
