The American Community Survey (ACS) is an annual demographics survey program conducted by the United States Census Bureau.It regularly gathers information previously contained only in the long form of the decennial census, including ancestry, US citizenship status, educational attainment, income, language proficiency, migration, disability, employment, and housing characteristics.
The CPS began in 1940, and responsibility for conducting the CPS was given to the Census Bureau in 1942. [5] In 1994 the CPS was redesigned. The U.S. Census Bureau reports two median household income estimates based on data from two surveys: the Current Population Survey (CPS) Annual Social and Economic Supplement and the American Community Survey (ACS). The CPS ASEC is the recommended source for national-level estimates, whereas the ACS gives estimates for many geographic levels.

For example, the ACS publishes detailed data every year, but due to their sampling procedure only publishes data for census area that have more than 65,000 People.
