Big Survey Wildlife Management Area is a 7,500-acre (30 km 2) Wildlife Management Area in Wythe County, Virginia. The preserve's woodland sits on four mountain ridges and divides the watersheds of Reed and Cripple creeks in the New River Valley. Among the trees and shrubs to be found there are rhododendron, azalea, oak, hickory, and pine. [2]
Wythe County's Austinville community was founded by Stephen and his brother Moses Austin, father of the famous Stephen F. Austin. In the 1790s the Austins took over the mines that produced lead and zinc; the town was named for the Austin surname, and not for any one particular Austin of the brothers who bore that surname.

Big Walker Lookout Tower is a stop on Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail's Big Walker Loop. [3]Birds sighted at the Big Walker Lookout include: wild turkey; black vultures; bald eagles and golden eagles; American kestrels; peregrine falcons; and sharp-shinned, Cooper's hawks, broad-winged, and red-tailed hawks.

[ 3 ] There is one maintained trail, the Little Dry Run Trail, Forest Service Trail #305, with a few yellow blazes, 4.4 miles long, and moderately difficult with trailheads on US 21 at the eastern end of the trail, and Comers Rock Campground on the west.
