"The Angel God Sent From Heaven" is a World War I era American song published in 1918. Frank L. Ventre composed the music, while Paul A. Smith and Robert Levenson wrote the lyrics. It was published by Jack Mendehlsohn Music Company in Boston, Massachusetts. [1] The song was written for both voice and piano.
The song's origins are uncertain; however, its nearest known relative is the English folk song "The Twelve Apostles." [ 2 ] Both songs are listed in the Roud Folk Song Index as #133. Parallel features in the two songs' cumulative structure and lyrics (cumulating to 12 loosely biblical references) make this connection apparent.
This version with Italian lyrics actually came after the original song written in Neapolitan entitled "For Jesus' birth" and that begins Quanno nascette Ninno (When the child was born) and sometimes referred to as the "Carol of the Bagpipers" (Canzone d'i zampognari). [1]
"Gabriel's Message" or "The angel Gabriel from heaven came" (Basque: Birjina gaztetto bat zegoen) is a Basque Christmas folk carol about the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary by the archangel Gabriel that she would become the mother of Jesus Christ the Son of God.
While flying down, he overhears church bells ringing carols ("O Come All Ye Faithful/O Holy Night"), as he flew closer, a single voice rang out in the church, later joined by a full choir ("A Star to Follow"). With the song over, the angel continued his search, the skies now snowing as he flies over the world ("First Snow").
"Angelus ad virginem" (Latin for "The angel came to the virgin", also known by its English title, "Gabriel, from Heven King Was to the Maide Sende" or "Gabriel fram evene king") is a medieval carol whose text is a poetic version of the Hail Mary and the Annunciation by the archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary.
