Vortex Spring is a popular diving area both for experienced and novice divers. Recreational diver training is offered at the park. There are two underwater training platforms at 20 feet (6.1 m) which are often used for Open Water certification dives, and an inverted metal "talk box" that traps air, allowing divers to remove their regulators and talk to each other while under the surface. For the most experienced divers, the main attraction of Vortex Spring is the cave, which starts 300 feet (91 m) from the cavern, at a depth of 115 feet (35 m). [10] At the entrance is a sign depicting the Grim Reaper which warns divers of the dangers of continuing onward.
Edd Sorenson (born October 17, 1959) is a technical cave diver known for numerous rescues of lost or trapped divers in underwater caves all over the United States, particularly in Florida's Vortex Spring and Blue Spring State Park.

[4] She has made TV series for PBS, National Geographic Channel and the BBC, consulted on movies for directors including James Cameron, written several books and produced documentaries including We Are Water [5] and Ben's Vortex, about the disappearance of Ben McDaniel.
