any savage barrel will fit the Axis. Also if you like you can true the action and use a model 10 recoil lug. As a matter of fact alot of Savage shooters are now buying the Axis to build custom rifles since Savage stopped makeing the Stevens.200s. plenty of parts are on the market for the Savage Axis. Only thing limiting you is your imagination!

fragout. For something under 500 bucks, Savage produces a much better rifle for hunting and target shooting. I had a Savage Axis chambered in 308, and didn't care for it . Reasons below. The stock is flimsy and hollow to the point it is possible for it to break right behind the trigger guard.

Have 2 of them, and they can't be beat for the price imo. Other features include: A 20inch med weight 1/10 twist bbl. Oversize bolt knob.

  5. savage axis .30-06 vs .308 - Survivalist Forum

The 30-06 is a legit Elk and Moose round. Most Elk guides here in Colorado will tell you the 308 is marginal for Elk. The 308 is better optimized for 150-165 grain bullets, while the 30-06 gets more powerful as you move from 150 to 180 gr bullets. I don't see any 200-220 gr factory 308 loads.

And Ive come to the conclusion that when i find the right one I would perfer a .308. A couple days ago I found this, it is the. Mossberg 308, 100 ATR Night Train Special Purpose Bolt-Action Rifle Package. It looks to be a pretty sweet rifle. Even comes with a decent 4-16x50mm variable scope and folding bi-pod. All of this for under $500.00.

But the stock trigger isn't really adjustable, not by twisting a screw, and not compatible with the 10 series triggers. Nor are the stocks compatible between them. They are sold as budget hunting rifles, for those who don't mod, just ...

  9. Savage -vs- Remington .308 Bolt-Actions - Survivalist Forum

I'm always advising people on here, "you need a bolt-action .308!", yet still don't have one myself.. So this afternoon i went down to the local fun shop and found a barely used Remington 700 .308 with what appears to be a RealTree camo stock and a heavy "varmint" barrel for $450, and a Savage Model 10 with the same heavy contour barrel and unknown brand 3~10X50 scope for $500.

You can use any Spanish small ring Mauser bolt from 1893 series of rifles or carbines. Those would be Model 1895 (all), M1916 Type 1 or Type 2 and the Model FR-7. Just make sure it has the flat bottom. (and, you have it properly headspaced to the rifle you are going to use it in) Here is a link to get parts.

  11. Wal-Mart Savage and Mossberg rifles - Survivalist Forum

Back to the Savage Axis vs. the Mossberg, the Savage is a better rifle. Yes, I have shot both. Now for further shooting, I prefer the Savage rifles with the AccuTrigger. I can shoot a tighter group with the better trigger. If you are only hunting deer sized targets or better, this may not be important to you.
