Education in Bridgeport, Connecticut includes Bridgeport Public Schools, private and religious schools, a college, and a university. Bridgeport is home to the University of Bridgeport, Housatonic Community College, St. Vincent's College [1] and the Yeshiva Gedola of Bridgeport. Gutchess College was a business school which went defunct circa 1920.
During the American Revolution, Bridgeport was a center of privateering. [3] Captain David Hawley of Stratfield brought a number of prizes into Black Rock Harbor. [7] In 1800, Newfield village on the west bank of the Pequonnock was chartered as the borough of Bridgeport, and, in 1821, the township of Bridgeport, including more of Stratfield, was incorporated.
He joined the faculty at Fairfield University in 2005. Williams became a full professor in 2012 and then served as the chair of the history department and the director of black studies. In 2014, Williams became the associate VP for academic affairs and was awarded the Fairfield University Martin Luther King Jr. Vision Award.
