Madurai Sungudi is a design from Madurai, in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, which is an exclusive textile product traditionally produced using tie and dye (using natural dyes) method by the Saurashtrians, who migrated to Madurai under the patronage of King Thirumalai Naicker in the 17th century. [1]
Mrityunjay Sarkar, a weaver of Mirzapur, is the inventor of this famous saree. [1] This handloom saree is famous for the beautiful delicate designs on the anchal and "butti", the use of 100% pure silk in the weave and the saree fineness of the fabric. In 2024, Garad Saree received recognition as a Registered Geographical indication. [2]
A sari (sometimes also saree [1] or sadi) [note 1] is a women's garment from the Indian subcontinent.
