I mean, don't play Forbidden West without playing Zero Dawn! In my opinion Zero Dawn is better, at least story wise. Forbidden West offers more in the way of game play, but even if you don't care to follow the story for whatever reason, you're not gonna want to get used to the features of Forbidden West and then drop back to Zero Dawn.
Overall I’ve had a blast playing Horizon Forbidden West. The main story is an absolute stunner. Side missions are meaningful and enjoyable. Characters are believable and realistic. The world is filled with -mostly- meaningful content and the different biomes all have a unique look and feel.
A while ago (in June of last year actually), during my second NG+ playthrough, I tried to put together a list of how Aloy might explore the world in chronological order and to have the exploration part of the story make sense in terms of progression while visiting the majority of the minor and major locations in the game, even those you wouldn't naturally come by.
Combat in Forbidden West is about running around, constantly i-frame rolling through attacks that came at you from all directions constantly, getting knocked down, stunned, or stuck all the time, popping off pot shots whenever you are able to until eventually you knock a machine into a vulnerable state, break an important component, or outright ...
Gameplay-wise, HFW was an improvement in almost every aspect, but HZD’s was still perfectly fine. Since FW’s story was considerably weaker than the first game’s, and without the novelty of discovering the world of Horizon (FW being more of the same on this regard), it’s fair to rate Zero Dawn better than Forbidden West
Horizon Forbidden West successfully builds on the lore and story of Horizon Zero Dawn, bringing to life a world that offers exploration as a reward of its own. The vast lands are breathtaking, paired with photo-realistic designs and an epic soundtrack to boot, Aloy's continued adventures are dazzling, to say the least.
