Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Kaʻūpūlehu is a AAA Five Diamond rated Four Seasons resort in Kaʻūpūlehu, on the Kona-Kohala Coast of the island of Hawaiʻi. The tsunami from the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake damaged the resort and forced it to close for six weeks (until April 30) for repairs. [ 1 ]
The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel reopened in January 1996. [12] From 1996-2001 the Prince Hotels in Hawaii and Alaska were all franchised to Westin Hotels, and the hotel rejoined the chain for five years as The Westin Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. Kailua-Kona is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Hawaii County, Hawaii, United States.It is most commonly referred to simply as Kona (a name it shares with the district to which it belongs), but also as Kona Town, and occasionally as Kailua (a name it shares with a community on the windward side of Oʻahu), thus its less frequent use.
Hāpuna Beach State Recreation Area is a large park and sandy beach on the Big Island of Hawaii. The Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel is also located adjacent to the beach. Hāpuna (literally, "spring" or "pool" in Hawaiian [1]) is popular with residents and visitors. This is one of a few other white sand beaches on the west coast of the Big Island.
By 2005 the percentage of accommodations on the west side of the island increased to 86% of the total. In 2005, just four modest hotels continued to serve the east side of the Big Island, with three of them dating back to the 1960s. [13] Tourism has helped fuel Hawaii County's overall population growth.
On November 17, 1916, KMC was officially opened and many soldiers came to this one-of-a-kind site through the ensuing years. The National Park Service later acquired KMC's lease when the Territory of Hawaii turned over the land to the United States as part of the Hawaii National Park in 1921. Also in 1921, the Army acquired control of KMC.
