Viola sororia ( / vaɪˈoʊlə səˈrɔːriə / vy-OH-lə sə-ROR-ee-ə ), [ 5] known commonly as the common blue violet, is a short-stemmed herbaceous perennial plant native to eastern North America. It is known by a number of common names, including common meadow violet, purple violet, woolly blue violet, hooded violet, and wood violet.
It is a modification of the original icon that uses a background with the colors of the rainbow flag. It became popular in Spain from April 2019 following a tweet posted on the official account of the populist far-right party Vox , after which a multitude of users belonging to the LGBT movement began to use it as a symbol.
