The battle becomes tied after Gourgeist defeats Gyarados. Next, Lance sends out Hydreigon and takes out Gourgeist, helping him earn a 2–1 lead. Diantha's last Pokémon is her ace, Gardevoir, which immediately becomes Mega Gardevoir. Mega Gardevoir deals a super effective Moonblast and takes out Hydreigon, tying the battle once again.

After they swap, Team Rocket continue with trying to steal Pikachu and Elekid. Phanpy battles Team Rocket, and Elekid with Pikachu's combined power destroys Team Rocket's mech and Elekid calms down.

Before the battle begins, Ash has his Mega Glove equipped to Mega evolve his Lucario, while Bea has her Dynamax band to Dynamax her Machamp. Ash starts off with Pikachu, while Bea brings out her Grapploct. After Pikachu's Electroweb fails to contain Grapploct, Ash swaps Pikachu for Lucario. Bea switches Grapploct for Hawlucha, and later Machamp.
