Pontiac (/ ˈ p ɒ n (t) i æ k / PON-(t)ee-ak) is a city in and the county seat of Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. [3] Located roughly 26 miles (41.8 km) northwest of downtown Detroit, Pontiac is part of the Detroit metropolitan area, and is variously described as a satellite city or suburb of Detroit.
The city is divided almost equally between Oakland County to the north and Wayne County to the south. Eight Mile Road (or Baseline Road) serves as the county line. Of the city's 2.06 square miles (5.34 km 2 ) in area and population of 5,970, 1.06 square miles (2.75 km 2 ) (51.4%) and 2,739 residences (45.9%) are within Wayne County.
