The Colorado state wildlife areas are managed for hunting, fishing, observation, management, and preservation of wildlife. 1971 – The State Recreational Trails Program was created. 1972 – State Parks and the Division of Wildlife were separated. 1977 – State Parks was requested to manage the snowmobile program for the state. 1984 – State Parks became responsible for licensing river outfitters. 1990 – State parks began managing the off-highway vehicle program.
Comanche National Grassland consists of 463,373 acres (187,520 ha) in two units: (1) Timpas, south of La Junta, and (2) Carrizo, south of Springfield. [1] Both units have privately owned tracts of ranchland mixed in with the government-owned land. Most of the Carrizo Unit is in the watershed of Carrizo Creek, a tributary of the Cimarron River.
