Converse University is a private university in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It was established in 1889 by a group of Spartanburg residents and named after textile pioneer Dexter Edgar Converse . It was originally a women's college but now admits men.
Its name changed in 1878. In 1889, Kentucky University (later Transylvania University), bought a stake in the school, taking total control in 1903. Closed in 1932. John Lyle's Female Seminary (founded in 1806) [2] Kentucky College for Young Ladies, Pewee Valley, was chartered and opened in 1874. Boys were allowed for day classes in 1896.

Old Greenville, near Greenville, Missouri, is a historic site that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [1] It is the former site of the town of Greenville, which was moved when it was believed the town would be flooded by a dam project in the 1940s. Buildings were moved; foundations remain behind. [2]
