A second single, Paralyzed, was released on June 26, 2024, followed by singles "Necessary Evil" on July 31, "Infection" on September 4 and "Hell Is Empty" on October 9. The sixth single, Shapeshifter, was released on November 20, 2024; coinciding with the announcement of their next studio album, also titled Shapeshifter, slated for March 28, 2025.
Shapeshifter (sometimes referred to as New Zealand Shapeshifter) are a live drum and bass [1] act from New Zealand. They are known for their live shows and blend of heavy soul with drum and bass. They have made appearances at Glastonbury, The Big Chill, Big Day Out, Parklife plus sold-out performances across Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
"Sweet Dream" was released as one of two songs for the album on July 15, 2021, along with "Shapeshifter". The former of the two reached number 51 in Canada. The music video for "Sweet Dream", directed by Tusk Creative, was uploaded to Cara's YouTube channel simultaneously with the single's release. [4]
It was originally titled "Teenage Hypochondriac" but was changed before the release date of the album. Although nowhere near as successful as the band's earlier smash hit "Sex and Candy," "It's Saturday" managed to hit number 25 on the US Modern Rock Charts. The lyrics of the song share common themes with the poem "Sick" by Shel Silverstein.
On May 28, 2015 it was announced on The Warpath radio program that ABK would release "Shapeshifter (Prelude)" at the GOTJ 2015 to give the fans a taste of what the album would be like. Anybody Killa was slated to go on the "Shapeshifter Tour" with Big Hoodoo, Tha Hav Knots (ABK, Big Hoodoo, and Bonez Dubb of AMB) and Native World Showcase.
This is reflected throughout the album as many of the tracks contain vocals compared to Shapeshifter's earlier, more traditional work. Soulstice manages to successfully blend many genres into this album which might be described as 'intelligent drum and bass', but is influenced by jazz, hip hop, dub, funk and soul.
Produced by frontman John Wozniak, Shapeshifter was recorded at Sabella Studios in Roslyn Heights, New York, and mixed at Mushroom Studios in Vancouver; [6] Wozniak ended up buying and renovating the latter venue.
