I am Setsuna is a role-playing video game in which players take control of a party of characters, navigating environments from a fixed top-down perspective. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] Locations, such as towns and areas outdoors and in dungeons where enemy encounters take place, are reached by navigating the game's overworld.
Work began on their first title, originally announced under the codename Project Setsuna, in 2014. [ 14 ] [ 15 ] Matsuno had a plan for multiple related titles related to Tokyo RPG Factory's IP, [ 13 ] [ 16 ] though this first game was created as a standalone project without plans for direct sequels. The game began development after the release of I am Setsuna (2016), with multiple returning staff including director Atsushi Hashimoto, writers Hirotaka Inaba and Makoto Goya, and composer Tomoki Miyoshi. The team's aim was to refine the earlier title's mechanics, while creating a new setting and story themed around memories.
