Antigua Air Station was established on a portion of the former Coolidge AFB. As of 2011, NASA continues to utilize the Antigua facility for launch tracking services on an as-needed basis; and did so for the launch of the Mars Science Laboratory on 26 November 2011. [4] Upon the closure of the base in 1949, it became a civil airport.

A week-long boat race called Antigua Sailing Week takes place in the waters near English Harbour in the parish of St. Paul's, Antigua. One of Antigua's most notable occasions is it. [10] It was established in 1967 [11] and is regarded as one of the top regattas in the world, averaging 100 yachts, 1500 competitors, and 5000 spectators each year.
The place grew very strongly - around 1855 it was named as the largest on the island and the population was given as "estimated 2–3000". [9] In 1882, the church was rebuilt and dedicated to the "glory of God". [8] Until the 1960s, the Methodists ran the only school on site, then a state school was established. [8]
