The Water Street Historic District encompasses a historic commercial and industrial area on the west side of downtown Torrington, Connecticut.Extending roughly along Water and Church Streets between the Naugatuck River and Prospect Street, the district includes factory and commercial buildings, as well as the former Torrington Fire Department Headquarters and the civic Knights of Pythias building.
In 2017, the Detroit Fire Department awarded Sergeant Johnson its Medal of Honor. [1] Johnson's father and brother also served as firefighters. On April 16, 2019, Johnson provided a first person account of being trapped, while trying to rescue a civilian from a house fire. [2] Johnson was also an artist and motivational speaker. [3]
The former Torrington Fire Department Headquarters is a historic building located at 117 Water Street in Torrington, Connecticut. It is located immediately adjacent to the modern headquarters at number 111. Completed in 1901, it is an elegant example of Romanesque Revival architecture, and served as the city's main firehouse until 1980.

In 2005, it was the only fire museum in the state open year-round, as well as the closest one to Metro Detroit. [8] The present museum consists of the former fire station as well as a modern, multilevel addition, that together combine for a total of 26,000 square feet (2,400 m 2).
