Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital has the first 3-room intra-operative MRI suite (IMRIS) in Asia, Asia's first EDGE Radiosurgery system from Varian Medical Systems, India's 1st Spine Surgery Suite featuring the O-arm and many more. The hospital courted controversy in 2014 when it offered incentives to doctors for referring patients.
The project was initiated in 1999 by Dr. Nitu Mandke as a large-scale heart hospital. It had the first 3-room intra-operative MRI suite (IMRIS) in South Asia. The hospital is named after Kokilaben Ambani, the wife of Dhirubhai Ambani who founded of the Reliance group of companies.
After the death of Dhirubhai Ambani on 6 July 2002, Reliance was headed by his two sons. The Reliance ADA Group was formed in 2006 after the two brothers Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani, split Reliance Industries in December 2005. [3] [4] Anil Ambani got the responsibility of Reliance Infocomm, Reliance Energy, and Reliance Capital.
The then Prime Minister Of India, Narendra Modi, at a ceremony held to rededicate Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre, in Mumbai on 25 October 2014. Mukesh Ambani, Nita Ambani and the then Governor Of Maharashtra, Shri C. Vidyasagar Rao, are also seen.
Dhirubhai Ambani was one of the sons of Hirachand Gordhanbhai Ambani, a village school teacher belonging to the Modh vaniya community and Jamnaben Ambani and was born in Chorwad, Malia Taluka, Junagadh district, Gujarat [11] on 28 December 1932. [12] He did his studies from Bahadur Khanji school.
Nitu Mandke was married to Dr Alka Mandke who is the trustee of the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. They have two daughters Jui and Charuta who are also doctors and son Mandar who is in robotic engineering in the UK. Anil Ambani is the youngest son of the founder of Reliance Industries, Dhirubhai Ambani and his wife Kokilaben Ambani. Ambani has said that his father would lead the brothers on "incentive-oriented outings" where they would be rewarded with a box of mangoes for a 10-km (6 mile) hike, but also punished them for acting out in front of guests.
