The Minnesota Ballet is a ballet company and school located in Duluth, Minnesota in the St. Louis County Depot. Founded in 1965 by Donna Harkins and Jan Gibson as the Duluth Civic Ballet, the company has since expanded into a touring company with seventeen professional artists. [ 1 ]

Houlton was born Loyce Johnson in Proctor, Minnesota, near Duluth, to Norwegian immigrants and immersed herself in music and dance as a child. [2] [3] [4] Her early training in dance was completed at Carleton College, where she studied between 1942 and 1946 and earned a B.A. degree.
It is based on the traditional Russian [2] and Ukrainian folk dance also called the trepak. The piece is part of the Divertissement in Act II, Tableau III. [citation needed] The other character dances in this divertissement are: Chocolate (Spanish dance), Coffee (Arabian dance) and Tea (Chinese dance). Tchaikovsky's Trepak is written in AABA form.
