When the harbour's first sailing club was founded in Bosham in 1907, regatta activity moved from Itchenor Customs House to Bosham Sailing Club. The popularity of BSC grew to the extent that its committee thought it necessary to be renamed "Bosham and Itchenor Sailing Club" from 1918. BSC reverted to its original name in 1922. Here it dominates the harbour entrance and provides immediate access either to the open sea or to the expansive, land-locked waters of the harbour. Sailing is possible at all stages of the tide and times of year. The first Regatta was held in 1922, with a number of entries from Bosham, Emsworth, Langstone, Itchenor and Portsmouth.
The harbour is one of the south coast's most popular sailing waters with as many as 12,500 craft regularly using the harbour, with competitive racing taking place among the 14 sailing clubs of the Chichester Harbour Federation. [14] The villages, sea walls and footpaths are a popular leisure area for residents and tourists alike.

At the end of World War One the club was briefly named "Bosham and Itchenor Sailing Club". It reverted to its pre-war name in 1922 and Itchenor Sailing Club was formed in 1927. [3] In 1927 the club moved to the upper half of the Raptackle building on the Quay, from where it still continues to start many of its races.
