The Ducati PaulSmart 1000 LE (PS1000LE) is a retro styled motorcycle built by Ducati in 2006 to commemorate Paul Smart's win at the Imola 200 race in 1972, a win that helped define Ducati's future approach to racing.
Ducati ST3 with fairing facelift. The Ducati ST3 was made between 2004 and 2007 and used the DesmoTre engine, an SOHC three-valve motor which could meet anti-pollution emissions limits. In 2005 power increased from 102bhp to 107bhp, and a wet clutch replaced the earlier dry clutch.
The 1000S followed the Sport1000's change to a dual-shock swing arm and wet clutch, though lower handlebars were required to fit under the fairing. 2007-2008 Monoposto models were available only in red with a white stripe, while in 2008 the paint scheme was changed to black with a white stripe for the Biposto model.
Key changes include an upgrade into a 180 hp 90° L-twin "Testastretta Evoluzione" engine, and the inclusion of the Ducati Traction Control for better handling. The more common version of the bike is called "1098-09 R", which comes with the traditional Ducati red fairing, black chassis, and white sub-frame. The wheel rims are gold colored.
In 2001 Ducati introduced the limited production (only 500 were built), 996 R, the suffix standing for ‘Racing’, which featured Öhlins suspension (rear and front), carbon fiber bodywork, a revised and more streamlined fairing, but most importantly the newly redesigned engine, the Testastretta (narrow-head) which actually displaced 998cc.
