Unni was born in Thrissur, Kerala, [8] on 22 September 1987 to Malayali parents Madathiparambil Mukundan Nair and Roji Mukundan. He completed his schooling from Pragati Higher Secondary School in Ahmedabad and graduated in English literature and journalism from Prajyoti Niketan College, Pudukad (). [9]
