Repeater watches were much harder to make than repeater clocks; fitting the bells, wire gongs and complicated striking works into a pocketwatch movement was a feat of fine watchmaking. So repeating watches were expensive luxuries and status symbols; as such they survived the introduction of artificial illumination and a few are still made today.
Samuel Watson (fl. c.1635-c.1710), [1] was a horologist (clock and watch maker) who invented the 5 minute repeater, [2] and made the first stopwatch. [1] He made a clock for King Charles II [ 3 ] and was an associate of Isaac Newton .

The clock, just 7 inches high, sat under a rounded glass dome on one of the highest shelves in the library of his family's house in Rochester, N.Y.
A pendulum clock is a clock that uses a pendulum, a swinging weight, as its timekeeping element. The advantage of a pendulum for timekeeping is that it is an approximate harmonic oscillator: It swings back and forth in a precise time interval dependent on its length, and resists swinging at other rates.
A qualified clockmaker can typically design and make a missing piece for a clock without access to the original component. Clockmakers generally do not work on watches ; the skills and tools required are different enough that watchmaking is a separate field, handled by another specialist, the watchmaker .
Atomic clocks usually have an external PPS output, although internally they may operate at 9,192,631,770 Hz. [3] PPS signals have an accuracy ranging from 12 picoseconds to a few microseconds per second, or 2.0 nanoseconds to a few milliseconds per day based on the resolution and accuracy of the device generating the signal.
