Currently the Oklahoma City Energy FC has no radio or television deal in place. In 2016, the team finished 7th in the Western Conference and advanced to the Western Conference semifinals. Energy FC also advanced to the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup after defeating cross-town rival Rayo OKC 2–1 in extra time.
The ECNL is divided by age groups from U-13 through U-19, and into nine (girls') or ten (boys') regional conferences of nine to 16 clubs. Clubs play regular season matches within their conferences, and top teams and wildcards can qualify for a post-season national round-robin champions' league competition.

The Oklahoma City Energy formed in late 2013, and FC Tulsa, previously known as "Tulsa Roughnecks FC", formed in mid-2014. Both clubs began their series ahead of the 2015 USL season.
