Jim Kilpatrick MBE (born 11 August 1956) is a Scottish pipe band drummer, and leading drummer of the Spirit of Scotland Pipe Band.He has won numerous drumming titles as both a solo drummer and in pipe band competitions, enjoying his greatest competitive success with the Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band.

The band was named after, and affiliated with, the company Muirhead & Sons, a sawmill based in Grangemouth and founded by George A. Muirhead in the 1880s. [2] [3] Muirhead & Sons Pipe Band was founded in 1928, and started competing in 1932. [4] After a hiatus during World War II, the band reformed in 1946. [4]

Spirit of Scotland competed for the first at the 2008 World Pipe Band Championships, qualifying for the final and finishing in 11th place overall after one week of practice. [3] [5] The band reformed in 2016 with leading drummer Jim Kilpatrick, who left Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band the previous season.
Burgess then joined the Edinburgh City Police, and became pipe major of that band in 1957. [5] Between 1962 and 1965, he was pipe major of the 4th/5th Battalion Cameron Highlanders TA Pipe Band. [2] He then moved to Invergordon in 1966, and played with the Invergordon Distillery Pipe Band for two years, until it was disbanded in 1967. [1] [6]
