Katsina is a Local Government Area and the capital city of Katsina State, in northern Nigeria. [1]Located some 260 kilometres (160 mi) east of the city of Sokoto and 135 kilometres (84 mi) northwest of Kano, close to the border with Niger Republic, in 2016, Katsina's estimated population was estimated at 429,000.
Katsina State was created in 1987 when it was split from Kaduna State at the regime of General Ibrahim Babangida. With over 5,800,000 residents as of 2006, Katsina State is the fifth most populous state in the country, despite the fact that it only ranks 17th out of 36 states in terms of area.
It comprises seven states – Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara. [ 1 ] Geographically, the zone is almost entirely within the tropical West Sudanian savanna ecoregion .
Each LGA is further subdivided into a minimum of ten and a maximum of twenty wards. A ward is administered by a councillor, who reports directly to the LGA chairman. The councillors fall under the legislative arm of the Local Government, the third tier of government in Nigeria, below the state governments and the federal government.
Dutsin-Ma is a Local Government Area (LGA) in Katsina State, Nigeria. Its headquarters is in the town of Dutsin Ma. Dutsinma is the administrative headquarters of the Dutsinma Local Government Area from its creation in 1976. [1] The Zobe Dam lies to the south of the town of Dutsin Ma. [2]
