Founded in 1943, the Merchant family from Manassas, VA owned and operated the first retail stores for Merchant's Tire and Auto. Over the next decades, the company expanded along the East Coast. In the year 2003, Tire Kingdom purchased National Tire & Battery (NTB) and Merchant's Tire & Automotive Service.
The company acquired Winston Tire Company in 1997, and moved ATD's headquarters from Lincolnton to Charlotte in 1998. [3] Heafner Tire sold Winston Tire Company to Performance Management, Inc. in 2001. [4] In 2000, Heafner Group acquired American Tire Distributors. [5] Heafner Tire changed its name to American Tire Distributors (ATD) in 2002. [6]
National Tire and Battery (NTB) is an American brand of auto service centers. It was formerly owned by Sears until it was spun-off in 2003. In 2020, Mavis Tire Supply Co. bought 112 NTB Tire & Service Centers, leaving the parent TBC Corporation with 615 locations under the Tire Kingdom and NTB brands.
Tire Choice Auto Service Centers is a brand of retail tire and automotive service stores. Dan Kennelly, a former Tires Plus (Morgan Tire) executive, and his wife Diane Hennelly founded The Tire Choice in 2004, building 35 stores, all in Florida. Monro, Inc. made its entry into Florida when they acquired the chain in 2014.[1]
