The series follows the inner life of the emergency room (ER) of fictional Cook County General Hospital in Chicago, and various critical issues faced by the room's physicians and staff. During the course of the series, 331 episodes of ER aired over fifteen seasons, between September 19, 1994, and April 2, 2009.
John Stamos reprised his role as Gates at the start of season 13. [2] His strong-willed and often rebellious attitude led him to a few confrontations with attending Gregory Pratt, who often called him a "cowboy"; this provided an ironic counterpoint to Pratt's earlier similar difficulties with Luka Kovač and John Carter.

Dave Malucci first appears as a second-year resident. He often breaks protocol to get things done and appears to lack warmth towards patients, but is occasionally shown to be both sensitive and insightful, particularly where younger patients are involved (a story in the episode "Loose Ends" very strongly implies that Malucci was physically and/or sexually abused when he was a child).
