The league was established in 2016 as Herefordshire FA County League after the disbandment of the Herefordshire Football League. [1] In July 2019, the league was restructured with the Premier Division increasing from 13 to 15 clubs. [2] In 2021, the Premier Division became a feeder league to Step 6 of the National League System.

The Herefordshire FA consists of two key bodies. The Council, comprising 17 elected representatives from the Leagues within the county plus 11 Life Members.The Council meets 4 times per year to consider policy issues and direction, as well as to approve proposals put forward by the various committees.
The FA Premier League was founded on 20 February 1992, following the decision of First Division (the top-tier league from 1888 until 1992) clubs to break away from the English Football League. As a result at the top is the single division of the Premier League (level 1, which is often referred to as the "top flight"), containing 20 clubs.
When the league merged with the Midland Alliance to form the Midland League in 2014, they were placed in Division Three. [5] The club were Division Three champions in 2018–19, earning promotion to Division Two. At the end of the 2023–24 season they were transferred to the Premier Division of the Herefordshire League.
They were finalists in the Herefordshire County Challenge Cup again in 2017–18, losing 6–0 to Hereford. At the end of the 2018–19 season the club were transferred to Division One West of the Hellenic League. In 2021 they were promoted to the Premier Division based on their results in the abandoned 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons.
Following the winding up of Hereford United on 19 December 2014, the Hereford United Supporters Trust (HUST) vowed to start a new phoenix club. [2] Three days later, local businessman John Hale, who had earlier been chairman of HUST, registered the name Hereford Football Club with the Herefordshire County Football Association, in conjunction with the trust and a group of local businessmen.
