Kuhn's Quality Foods Markets is a family-owned chain of grocery stores located in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area of the United States.. The Dentici family were already in the grocery business when in 1967 Joe and Tom Dentici purchased Kuhn's Market from its founder Joseph Kuhn, who owned and operated the small grocery on Perrysville Avenue since 1939.
That same year, the company was officially renamed to Kuhn's - Big K Stores Corporation. [2] In March 1970, the company announced plans to go public with 400,000 shares, then operating 21 Big K stores and 34 Kuhn's Variety Stores. [3] The company later went public in April 1971, with 512,000 shares of common stock. [4]
Karns Quality Foods was founded in 1959 by David L. Karns and has been operated continuously by the Karns family since then. The company was founded in the form of a butcher shop in New Cumberland, [1] but the current format is a traditional grocery store with an emphasis on perishable items.
