Leander Independent School District is a school district based in Leander, Texas and covering a total of 200 square miles (520 km 2) in Leander, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Jonestown, Round Rock in Williamson County and northwest Austin in Travis County. In 2015, the school district was rated "Met Standards" by the Texas Education Agency. [2]
The school is named for United States Marine Corps First Lieutenant Matthew Ryan Vandegrift, who was killed in action in Basra, Iraq in 2008. [2] The school's first year of operation, 2009, was at adjacent Four Points Middle School, and it then transferred to the Vandegrift campus at the start of the 2010 school year.
The school competes in UIL Academics District 25 [22] in speech & debate, social studies, literature, journalism, and STEM competitions. Cedar Park was the district champion team in 2022, [23] and third at the regional meet [24] and fourth at the state meet. [25] The school also won the journalism team state championship in 2022. [26]
Elementary schools will begin classes at 9:40 a.m. Middle and high school campuses will begin at 10:50 a.m. Leander : All classes will start on a two-hour delay Tuesday.

It opened in the 2016–2017 school year as the sixth high school of Leander Independent School District. [2] As of 2016, the school is the northern most high school in the district. The school (as of 2016) is the district's newest school, and the school started with freshmen and sophomores for the first school year.
