Upton Heath is part of the natural region of the Dorset Heaths and covers an area of 205 hectares. It lies within the Poole Basin and is bounded by the village of Corfe Mullen to the north, the Poole district of Broadstone to the northeast, Creekmoor to the east, the A35 dual carriageway to the south and the hamlet of Beacon Hill to the southwest.
Though the ancient hamlets of East Howe, High Howe and West Howe lay to the south, with a farming hamlet called Cudnel to the east, settlement at Bear Cross itself only began after 1756 when the main route from Poole to Ringwood was diverted to its present position – that of the A348, or Ringwood Road.
The Creekmoor Light Railway was a small, privately run, 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge railway. [1] It was situated off Creekmoor Lane, to the north of Poole , [ 2 ] between Broadstone and Fleetsbridge , Dorset , and was operated by a group of local enthusiasts from October 1968, to April 1973.
