According to the music score, Manders' piece starts off slow and sweet, as the sopranos sing of the peace found under the wings of the Lord. The legato voices create an aura of trust and refuge. The light tone featured at the beginning of the song transitions to an energetic, bold tone as the choir sings that they "will not fear."
Ukrainian singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Dilya made his version of "Gabriel's Message" in Ukrainian folk tradition using bandura, guitar and organ with ethnic female back vocals. It is the first single from his Christmas EP with the same name, released on December 20, 2015.
The term "chord chart" can also describe a plain ASCII text, digital representation of a lyric sheet where chord symbols are placed above the syllables of the lyrics where the performer should change chords. [6] Continuing with the Amazing Grace example, a "chords over lyrics" version of the chord chart could be represented as follows:
"Good Shepherd" originated in a very early 19th century hymn written by the Methodist minister Reverend John Adam Granade (1770–1807), "Let Thy Kingdom, Blessed Savior". [1] [2] [3] Granade was a significant figure of the Great Revival in the American West during the 19th century's first decade, as the most important author of camp meeting hymns during that time. [4]
The arrangement features a brass fanfare with drums in addition to the cathedral organ, and takes about seven and a half minutes to sing. The Victorian organist W. H. Jude, in his day a popular composer, also composed a new setting of the work, published in his Music and the Higher Life. [18]
Spread over us the shelter of Your peace. Guide us with Your good counsel; for Your Name’s sake, be our help. Shield and shelter us beneath the shadow of Your wings. Defend us against enemies, illness, war, famine and sorrow. Distance us from wrongdoing. For You, God, watch over us and deliver us. For You, God, are gracious and merciful.
In jazz music, on the other hand, such chords are extremely common, and in this setting the mystic chord can be viewed simply as a C 13 ♯ 11 chord with the fifth omitted. In the score to the right is an example of a Duke Ellington composition that uses a different voicing of this chord at the end of the second bar, played on E (E 13 ♯ 11 ).
