St. Charles Area Transit, branding its service as SCAT, is a public transportation service located in St. Charles County, Missouri. The goal of the service is to provide mass transit access for these St. Louis, Missouri suburbs , which are not part of the city's Bi-State Development Agency transportation system.
Rather than rebuild tracks in the underpass, the Tulane and St. Charles lines were separated, and Tulane Avenue was converted to a trolley coach line. During construction, the St. Charles line continued to operate (in both directions) all the way on Carrollton Avenue from St. Charles Avenue to the underpass construction site at Dixon Street.
Two other 21st-century proposals to revive streetcar service in the St. Louis area failed: the St. Charles City Streetcar, which would have run an 8-mile (13 km) route from New Town to St. Charles, Missouri; and a proposed 7-mile (11 km) streetcar system to connect Downtown St. Louis to the Central West End, Downtown West, Midtown, and Carr Square.

In August 2022, Metro reopened the trolley and received a $1.26 million grant from the East-West Gateway Council of Governments to operate the service on a seasonal schedule for the next several years.
