The process of establishing the park began in 1962 and the park officially opened on August 19, 1966. [1] It contains Mirror Lake, a narrow reservoir with steep sandstone sides up to 50 feet (15 m) tall.
The park also has areas designated for camping, swimming, hiking, and picnicking. [1] Although the park shares a name with the city of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, that city is over 100 miles (160 km) to the west.
