The BBC Sound Archive is a collection of audio recordings maintained by the BBC and founded in 1936. Its recordings date back to the late 19th century and include many rare items, including contemporary speeches by public and political figures, folk music , British dialects and sound effects.
It was the second in the BBC Sound Effects series to be credited to the Workshop. It featured sounds from popular television series Doctor Who (all from Season 18 ) and Blake's 7 , as well as effects for the first series of the radio versions of Douglas Adams ' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and James Follett 's Earthsearch .
It was the first album in the BBC Sound Effects series to feature solely Radiophonic Workshop output and also the first commercial release of an album of the Doctor Who sound effects and atmospheres.
