Rio Salado College was founded on March 14, 1978 [1] as one of 10 Maricopa Community Colleges. At the time, the college offered remote classrooms in 180 facilities throughout the Valley of the Sun. [ 2 ] Rio Salado College offered its first online classes in 1996 and by 2006 had converted a majority of its course offerings to an online format.
The programs offered at MCCCD include those leading to a two-year associate degree and occupational certificates, as well as online classes and dual enrollment programs. The cost of tuition for Maricopa County residents is $85 per credit hour, as of the 2022–23 academic year.
Dual Enrollment is available through Rio Salado College [7] and most classes offer dual credit. In the past 10 years, the school has congratulated 89 National Merit Finalists, 143 Commended Scholars, 36 National Hispanic Scholars, and five National Black American Scholars.
