After the 1988 model year, the EXP was discontinued, as Ford pared down its coupe model lines to the Ford Thunderbird, Ford Mustang, and the Ford Probe. As of current production, Ford has not produced another two-seat sports compact (its only two-seat offerings have been the Thunderbird and Ford GT).
This engine was also produced in Cologne, Germany. It was put in Pintos, Mustangs, Fairmonts and Rangers. It was then modified by Mazda to become the 2.5L in the late 1990s Ranger/U.S. sold Mazda pickups. Ford modified this design further so it is hardly recognizable from pre-2000 (date uncertain) year models. Caution!
The North American version of the Ford Escort is a range of cars that were sold by Ford from the 1981 to 2003 model years.
