The 1983 World Series was the championship series of Major League Baseball's (MLB) 1983 season. The 80th edition of the World Series, it was a best-of-seven playoff played between the American League champion Baltimore Orioles and the National League champion Philadelphia Phillies .
To date, this is the last World Series to feature the Orioles. The Phillies would return to the World Series in 1993, but they would fall to the Toronto Blue Jays in six games. The Orioles would not return to the postseason again until 1996. The 1983 World Series was the last postseason series ever played at Memorial Stadium.

John Rikard Dempsey (born September 13, 1949) is an American former professional baseball player. [1] He played for 24 seasons as a catcher in Major League Baseball from 1969 to 1992, most prominently for the Baltimore Orioles where he played for 10 years and was a member of the 1983 World Series winning team.
