Giemsa's solution is a mixture of methylene blue, eosin, and Azure B.The stain is usually prepared from commercially available Giemsa powder. A thin film of the specimen on a microscope slide is fixed in pure methanol for 30 seconds, by immersing it or by putting a few drops of methanol on the slide.
Brugia is a genus for a group of small roundworms. They are among roundworms that cause the parasitic disease filariasis. [1] Specifically, of the three species known, Brugia malayi and Brugia timori cause lymphatic filariasis in humans; and Brugia pahangi and Brugia patei infect domestic cats, dogs and other animals.
Routine analysis of blood in medical laboratories is usually performed on blood films stained with Romanowsky stains such as Wright's stain, Giemsa stain, or Diff-Quik. Wright-Giemsa combination stain is also a popular choice. These stains allow for the detection of white blood cell, red blood cell, and platelet abnormalities.
Giemsa staining will uniquely stain B. malayi sheath pink. [10] However, finding the microfilariae on blood films can be difficult because of the nocturnal periodicity of some forms of B. malayi. [citation needed] PCR based assays are highly sensitive and can be used to monitor infections both in humans and the mosquito vectors.
A skin scraping can be prepared, and stained with Wright's stain. Many intracellular and extracellular yeast cells with crosswalls are suggestive of T. marneffei infection. Smears from bone marrow aspirates may also be taken; this is regarded as the most sensitive method. These samples can be stained with the Giemsa stain.
G-banding, G banding or Giemsa banding is a technique used in cytogenetics to produce a visible karyotype by staining condensed chromosomes. It is the most common chromosome banding method. [ 1 ] It is useful for identifying genetic diseases (mainly chromosomal abnormalities ) through the photographic representation of the entire chromosome ...
