The Centennial Light is considered to be the longest-lasting incandescent lamp in the world. It is used as evidence of collusion among incandescent lamp manufacturers in the Phoebus cartel , one of whose aims was to limit the average lifespan of lightbulbs to 1000 hours.
The world's longest-lasting light bulb is the Centennial Light located at 4550 East Avenue, Livermore, California. It is maintained by the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department . The fire department claims that the bulb is at least 124 years old, having been installed in 1901, and has only been turned off a handful of times.
The light survived when the opera house became the Palace Theater, and survived several power outages. It was put on its own circuit breaker "that was permanently set to 'on ' ". [ 3 ] The theater house was marked for demolition in 1977, and the light bulb went to the local home of a man.
